Farewell to a true Texas gentleman

Byron Nelson, one of the greatest legends of golf, passed away Tuesday at the age of 94. Holder of one of the few records left that Tiger hasn’t broken, the 11-tournament winning streak in 1945 (only Tiger and Ben Hogan have even got half-way there, each with a streak of six), and two records that ultimately took Tiger to break (longest made-cut streak and single season scoring average). The only players with more wins than he are the usual suspects: Snead, Nicklaus, Hogan, Palmer and Woods. Pretty heady air. In addition, his tournament is reliably the number one charity fundraiser on tour. Rest well, sir.

When I heard the story on the news this morning I immediately thought of you.

    He will be missed.
