Okay, let’s put those new adult filters to some use.

No doubt the pansy-ass morons at LJ/6A’s community relations department are so terrified of getting an honest opinion, they’ve safely filtered their reading prefs to the max, so they’ll never see this.

I have no problem whatsoever putting an ‘Adult Concepts’ filter on my journal. I talk about adult things. I have two nieces, seven and eleven years old, who are not ready for some of the things I discuss in here. And, my sister would kill me dead if I were the ones to introduce them to the F-bomb. Fine. No problem there.

At no time and for no reason may LJ/6A make filtering decisions for me. They may present to me my options and let me choose. They may not decide for me that I shouldn’t see adult content. It’s not their job. It’s not their place.

Fuck you, LJ. You’ve long since made it a dead cert that I will never get a paid account here, because you’ve long since proven you can’t be trusted. Now you’re getting perilously close to me just saying screw all of it and moving permanently to WordPress or GreatestJournal or anywhere that doesn’t have a Dumbya-like ‘Free Speech Zone’ mentality of what public discourse is. What you did is not illegal, but it is both unethical and highly insulting.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to go to your settings page and uncensor your journal.

You don’t even want me to get started on the new flagging system. LJ’s Pollyanna writeup of what they’ve done is here. A realistic viewpoint (courtesy ) is here.

I think the filter and flagging systems are really just there to cover their asses. All the under 18 that want to look at adult material will lie about their age. Since they’re publicly stating they’re over 18, LJ can claim they had no idea that the user was a minor should parents get lawyer happy over seeing harry potter porn or other such things on their kid’s LJ.

Fixed my journal so the content I wanted to view wasn’t being filtered/censored, as the LJ poobahs decided I needed for some FUCKED UP reason.

I also tagged their announcement of Big Brotherism as offensive. I hope thousands of LJ users do the same.

EDIT: I have posted a link to this post on my LJ, because you have expressed this far more clearly–and with far fewer expletives–than I could.

Sorry for the completely unrelated question, but how do you edit a comment? I can’t find a way to do that.

On any comment that you post, afterwards there will be a little button with a pencil with that comment. You click that button and edit from there.

I was actually kinda surprised at how little usage of classic four-letter Anglo-Saxon terminology I used… I mean, I was (and am) monumentally pissed off about this — far moreso the autocensor settings and the new flagging system that’s just *begging* to be abused by some obnoxious cadre of little shits who want to make an annoyance of themselves.

On the plus side, LJ/6A is slowly running out of things to fuck up. I mean, there’s a finite number of mistakes they can make, in theory, anyway.

Jesus Christ, what a bunch of fucking twats. (there, that should cover blasphemy and general swearing with vague sexual content).

It’s like they’ve just heard of “the internet” and don’t know how it works.

I also flagged their announcement as offensive

Thanks for the link to the settings page. There were actually a few settings in there I didn’t know about that were messing with viewing my friends page, like being set to block images (which I didn’t know about and found annoying).

I did change my setting to collapse explicit content when I’m reading LJ, but only because I sometimes read from work. Call it a “worksafe” mode.

Still, this is yet another reason I will never give LJ money.
